Unintended Destroy Gem Side Effect?

I'm not sure if this was an official update, but it seems as if destroy gem moves now attempt to prioritize regular gems over and special modified gems. For an example, if I place traps gems with Carmella and then use the "destroy X purples" move, it will attempt to destroy any other purples and only destroy purple trap gems if there are no other options. For Carmella, at least in the way I run her, this is desirable and there is no issue.
The issue I noticed came with Rocky Johnson, who has similar moves. One is a black move which places a multiplier effect on black gems, and the other is a green move that destroys black gems. In several tests, the destroy move would always ignore the multiply gems first and only break them if no other black gems were available. This happened several times in which I had eight black gems, three of which were multiply gems and five of which were regular gems, and my green destroy move, which would destroy five black gems, destroyed the five normal gems.
Using simple math, a fair or random method would have approximately a (5/8)*(4/7)*(3/6)*(2/5)*(1/4) = .017 or 1.7% chance of this exact scenario happening. The fact that it happened several times in a row would indicate that the multiply gems are getting "de-prioritized," potentially unintentionally. While in some instances this "de-prioritization" is desirable, I would rather have a true random selection than face potential drawbacks such as noted.
Please take note, I have only observed this specifically with Rocky Johnson. At this time I cannot confidently state if this is game-wide or wrestler specific.

This is intended and has always been this way. For example if a destroy 5 random red is used it won't hit any special read unless there are less than 5 regular reds. So if there are 4 regular reds and 6 red blast gems it will destroy random gems from the 10 but if there is 5 regular reds and 20 blast gems it will only target the 5 regular reds.

Stagger Lee,
I'm willing to defer to your expertise and accept that I have simply not noticed this particular mechanic until this time. However, has this mechanic been posted anywhere or stated outright anywhere in the game itself? I feel that when a reasonable individual sees the word "random," they expect true randomness within the limitations of a computer based random seed. However, as you describe it, the process is not random at all and can have significant consequences on the course of gameplay. If the function to destroy gems at random is already included as you imply, why is that not simply the default mechanic?
