SummerSlam 92 Scrimmage Contest

This event format is what people have been wanting, even if opinions vary on how the execution would go. And it's unfortunate that it is connected with such a huge negative experience earlier in the week.
There was a guaranteed reward at the other end of a grind. Not a chance at a reward, battling other players for leaderboard spots or hoping for good RNG. A guarantee.
Did more work have to be done to get more guaranteed rewards? Yes. Is this workload what the majority of the playerbase thinks of for an event like this? Probably not, but those who have seen similar events know how this works.
I should have spent more time on non-game stuff this weekend, admittedly. Touch grass, etc. But I got a guaranteed reward instead of needing to buy shards later in the month to secure the unlock. And that's fine by me.
To be clear: It should not take a colossal failure to make this event more appealing to offer to players. The game has been trending toward this kind of concentrated time grinding challenge and this event is a logical extension of it, not something that should be stored away for emergencies and make-goods.
The execution of the event from delivering what was communicated to players left a lot to be desired, and continues to be a glaring weak spot in developer-player give-and-take. Yes, the extra 500K that VIP-ers weren't supposed to get doesn't change my performance, but it does smack of unfairness and, more importantly, it's not one thing happening in a vacuum. It's a series of events that have unfolded time and time again where the company has pulled the rug out from players through either ineptitude or unintentional deception shrouded as subject to change, and what's worse, placed a premium on putting their company's content creator partners front and center to be the punching bags for the community when the developers inevitably get something wrong, which creates this toxic cycle that pits a content-creator and their community against players with, at the bare minimum, good-faith gripes about what typically boils down to poor proofreading.
These remarks are not to cast a disparaging light on the event. Again, the event concept, removed from all the context of why it happened, is stellar. But I hope that the rest of this month is able to get back on track in terms of the big picture, or it will end up being a very long five weeks.

Love everything about this event and more. We need more of these events!!!

I thought this was a great Event most events are pay to play to get the best rewards but this wasn’t one of them I hope there’s more like this

I have had a horrible time with thos contest and suggest that the payout from event missions be adjusted so they aren't so buggy as i have claimed a few medallions from the event and had 1000 of them just disappear without me ever redeeming any. I have also had major issues with the event crashing on me and one of them cost me my 2 star bronze Honky Tonk Man that was just released and of course support is no help at all. My feedback for all events is to try to reduce the number of bugs because a lot of players lose out on stuff because of them.

Set aside all the mess ups in the tours and unfairly giving the people who took advantage of the messup and got the free character plus the 500k bonus points that noone else got aside.
This event was grindable to get the SS so that was a definite plus side for scopely tho the tours were not easy for standard roasters making it hard to get the fuse without paying. I still call it a win you were able to get the SS and his plate by grinding

💘💘💘💘
Finally after atleast 4-5 months, i got a new superstar that is launched. Otherwise it was impossible for players like me who are free to play only. Infact I maxed all the TPs events, Perks maxed, Coin event and being in top 100 faction i got the faction rewards...but no way I get the monthly long contest...or even the brand new characters launched.
But thanks scopely for the messup you did earlier and because of that I am getting the BULLDOG after a grind...it is a beautiful and worth while grind i suppose..because i got the rewards after the effort...
Thanks a lot ..
And please keep doing such mess ups in future again and again😝😜😅😉😉

It was nice to have an obtainable chase but again the character choices for the bonus did very little favors for. The timing of the event wasn't the greatest due to holiday weekend but again it was nice to have a reachable goal.

Great event, more like this please, j would say it could have been better if there were solo points in the tour, but either way it was still good, I got bulldog and his plate 💪🏻
1 -
Great event! Not too bad of a grind to get the css. Wish there was at least one of these a month where you could grind out a new character.

This weekend’s showdown was enjoyable because the targets were realistic and achievable, thank you Scopely

I'm glad I took a bit longer to sit down for this write-up, because now on the other side of it, I really like this event, at least in a vacuum. I just really wish I didn't have to add that qualifier. For the usual transparency, I obtained Bulldog at 3SB via event milestones.
- Bulldog was 100% free to obtain via grinding. That alone is a big deal. There are some details that rubbed the people the wrong way (me included) but the way of getting Bulldog as well as how the community came together to make that not a total pain of going through all 5SG teams for like 4 hours made this generally a positive event for me, and if you were particularly psychotic and didn't have anything going on for 4th of July weekend, you could have even gotten the plate. So in that vacuum, wonderful event - can't say enough good about it.
- Lot of tours, and because most of them gave out faction points, eh? I would have been more upset with the challenge mode giving out 120 shards per difficulty if it wasn't for the fact that Bulldog was grindable, which goes to show how much more leeway a potential guaranteed shot can give you, and how much 'you can grind for the card' can excuse a lot more stuff.
- Showdown actually had really low bonus points for milestones, especially seeing as it was 5k base for a match. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have, but I feel as if they got reduced as a result of the change-up to the contest (and yes, I do believe that we only got Bulldog to due events earlier in the week).
- Prize wall was pretty standard, wish there was more than one set of mutant Mankind shards but I'm glad he didn't get vaulted entirely until the Best of 2022 loot, as that was my big worry following the MLC.
- And... that's about all I can think of. So let's talk why there's been a big backlash, and what put a real sour note to all this. First off, the bug that lead to this was another indication of a shocking lack of QA from Scopely's part, adding on to what might be the buggiest MLC launch I've seen in five years. In addition, unlike all the others this was one that threatened the entire MLC progression curve, and required a lot of cutback and, as a result, this event. I'm under no pretense that Bulldog would have been nearly as easy to get normally, but I'm glad that we actually got some good compensation for putting up with... all this and not just more of those grab bags of highly dubious value.
- That being said, the execution has something to be desired. For one, people got Bulldog early, and as a result got a noticeable head start in the contest, which was made really frustrating by the fact that you guys said that Bulldog wouldn't go out until day 2 (at least at some point, as I also heard that anyone who had Warrior would get Bulldog early?). I'm not one for griping about people benefitting from bugs (being someone who didn't get Warrior early) but when there's actual competitive stake in the compensation in the form of the scoring and ranking of the contest, you need to be really careful about things, and I think this was poorly managed despite identifying the general pitfalls involved.
- The ultimately more important point I had was the larger communication about Bulldog, his distribution, and how things were generally handled. When I hear things from you guys, I no longer take them at face value - I immediately begin getting worried about the catch, or how a good thing will ultimately be pitted against us. I believe I am by no means alone in that, given the history of inaccurate blogs (subject to change, my ass, might as well not even read them if they're going to change between now and ingame) and recent implementations of adjustments (web coin store, Khali's event, probably like three or four other things I'm not remembering).
- What I had heard was that Bulldog would be in pre-bonus milestones as a guaranteed poster and that everything would be reverted except for milestone rewards which couldn't be regained. Ultimately everything in Firpo's post would be true, but the issue was that wasn't the only official way to get information about this. I can only assume that BPG and you guys had a communication issue of some sort because he said things on the official Twitch channel that we presumed you told him and did not come to be - wouldn't be in the last free milestone, Bulldog to those affected wouldn't be sent out until day 2. I'm ultimately not going to put it on him because he doesn't have internal knowledge about the game, but I know statements like those set expectations that were not met, and people were not happy about it, myself included - putting compensation for a major bug behind 160 showdown matches is kind of a gut punch. But as I said, if it wasn't for the bug, I'd be saying that this evevnt was harkening back to my favorite Showdown events ever for zPaige/Edge/Shamrock, where you could get a great card (at the time) through grinding - it's all about the context and communication. If this didn't only come to be because you guys majorly screwed up, and I had any pretenses that getting Bulldog would be a considerable grind before the event itself, I think I as well as many other people would have viewed the event a lot better throughout.

CONTESTS: Considering the SOLO was fully grindable, not much to complain, with the exception of the "subject to change" rule that has become a joke noone laughs at anymore. As for the FACTION part, since you basically set the odds for the bags for 1-2-3 Kid' shards to be the ones to be drawn, those who already had him maybe used them for moves, as for those who didn't have him, now it's a thing of the past....that's how it should be....whenever there is a specific talent up portion, you should give shards or posters of an already in-game released superstar, so that players have little to waste.
TOURS: it's never a good thing when you read "Any Showboat" and then it's actually "Any Showboat New Gen"....same for "Any New Gen" and then it's "Any Powerhouse New Gen"
REWARDS: since they were all obtainable for free, I would have liked to say that they were a plus, but after seeing Evo/coin events raised to 25+ mil coins to be completed...

No big topics to complain about on last weekend's event.
- Bulldog was indeed grindable for all of us players (I stopped at the 3rd bonus milestone to enjoy at least a bit of Sunday) and even his plate was obtainable without using a dime to fulfill. To be able to experience something like this nowadays was indeed a huge surprise! Would be great to have this every month on the SD scrimmage events...
- Performance was ok, too, had just a handful of disconnects - huge improvement compared to the last months
- Community should really start to work together as setting players' defense high makes no sense at all, everybody could be able to grind faster with ease without having issues to find a proper opponent all the time (within our faction family there is the mutual agreement to set the defense low from the get go).
Looking forward to enhance Bulldog ;)

First of all i think we all agree that the communication side of things hasn´t been great lately, especially the term "subject to change" gets overused a lot. There definitely needs to be improvement on this point in the near future.
I´ll leave out the midweek drama (we really had enough of that already) and focus on the event alone.
In my opinion this was the best SD event in recent history.
EVERYBODY got the chance not only to grind for a free Bulldog but also his new skill plate and enough pw currency to get another skill plate or a lot of other useful stuff from the weekend prizewall FOR FREE.
People complain all the time that you can´t get / grind for new stars or plates without spending a ton of cash.
Be serious for a moment and ask yourself: When was the last time you could max a SD weekend event without spending? (even if you had all the CSS)
Now everybody gets the chance for a free star (and more) and people are complaining more than before, its just nuts.
Yes, the event was time consuming to max (more so if you´re missing CSS)
BUT it was not limited scoring-wise, like it usually is. All you had to do is invest time.
It was completely doable without any of the "premium" CSS if you were willing to bring the effort.
This is what such events should be like in my opinion, bring the effort and walk away with the prize.

Can just sign this, man.
I only had the free superstars to get the bonus points (HHH, Hitman, New gen and RA era) and plus the weekly SD coins on Sunday I was able to get Bulldog with about 250 matches (using Acro HBK for fast, turn 1 matches) which is still a lot but considering the whole milestones were free to play made a huge difference on my motivation. Grinding for hours with that goal in mind was a complete different approach then knowing that by the end of the day you won't be able to get the good stuff (like it used to be).
1 -
I know people with rosters as low as 776k who maxed so it wasn’t a deepest pocket contest.
1 -
That’s on them.
1 -
I would like to say that I really enjoyed this weekend's event, yes it was a grind but you get a free superstar and a skill plate at the same time, not to forget those coins that can be used to raid the prize wall...
The only thing that worries me is Scopley have only done this cause the MLC start-up was messed up... so they did this to please the community which I don't have an issue with it, but if they did this like every month, making characters grindable every month be it a new character or even 1/2 month old character that would be awesome!
All in all, I hope scopely will continue this and not just stop cause they messed up!
Cheers

Feedback for British Bulldog Scrimmage Showdown
Positives
- Based on the fiasco earlier in the week, it appears the event was tailored to appease the community by creating a grind-heavy event in order to obtain your "free" card and max the solo contest.
- Solo tours were doable without any heavy restriction so nice work on that.
- Faction contest were structured well with inclusion of Showboat and New Gen talent up.
- Allowing us to freely gather enough shard to recruit Bulldog at 1600 shards was great and there were still plenty of extra shards available.
Negatives
- Your easiest solution for this event should not have included the 500k free points that were awarded to players who recruited Bulldog due to your error. This would have been the easiest for everyone without people complaining. Personally it didn't bother me as it just meant extra SD matches I have to grind where others didn't.
- The CSS superstars could have been toned down to make the grind easier for some like Acro Snoop, Stunning Steve, etc.
Overall, I think to allow the community $0 spend to obtain a full shard recruited newly character along with new plates and plenty of scrimmage tokens was great and it's been a while since we had an opportunity like this. For me the downside of this is it costed me my sleep in order to grind out the SD matches and be able to max out a solo event for the first time ever. Hoping not to have to do this again in a while.

Great that many players were able to earn the new poster without having to spend money.
1 -
First of all, I think 2bob29 nailed it! There is nothing to add.
To make it short: Great event, this is the way every event should be!
1 -
Overall i would like to see more events like this.
The only criticize is that on top of giving affected players a bulldog poster you should sent it after the first 24 hours cause of the 500k advantage.
2 -
This was a fantastic event from start to finish.
We were told that we could recruit British Bulldog by just playing the game and that’s exactly what happened. Regardless of how many matches we had to play we were able to obtain a new superstar and max the event at zero cost. This was very well received by my entire faction.
The tours were absolutely fine and not locked behind rare superstars.
faction event was a standard event. Not too much to shout about but nothing negative to say about it.
this event is a good way to keep the playerbase happy and give them something to grind for. Obviously you’re a business and need to make money and we totally understand that. An event like this 2-3 times a year would go a long way with a lot of players. Happy customers are more likely to continue spending money.
i can see a lot of negative comments regarding the event but that’s probably down to the fact those players didn’t have the time or desire to play enough to get the rewards. Just because their personal circumstances didn’t allow them to get the most from the event doesn’t mean it was a bad event. The players who did have the time and wanted to earn the rewards did just that and are extremely happy.

This event was great. Do a little grinding with a turn 1 ss and get a card. I still had time fir family stuff and got it.
Those that complain they didn't get the card for free because of the mess up or say that it's a holiday weekend are crazy. Those lazy people are the same ones that order a 50 pound bag of dog food only having to carry it in their house instead of going to the store, having someone else load it in their car, and taking into the house all to save 15 feet of carrying it.
1 -
First up - I got the card, so if this is the winning entry, please give the card to someone who doesn't have it.
A lot of digital ink has already been spilled on the topic of the VIP tour, the subsequent fix and how that carried over into this weekend event. My feedback is going to try and divorce the mess up in the early part of the week and look at the event on it's own.
Overall, I thought it was fantastic. With one really good change, Scopely managed to make Showdown relevant again. Normally I can get showdown completed in 2 or 3 hours and then have the rest of the weekend off. This time we had to work for it, but the rewards were absolutely worth it. It would be great if we could have more of these types of events in the future. Make something grindable and if the players want to go for it, they have an incentive to do so.
Solo Event structure:
This was excellent. The only thing I would consider fixing is to have removed the early unlock bonus, but only because of what happened earlier in the week. Without those issues, no problem with keeping the early unlock bonus. The solo event gave just the right amount of showdown matches if you either wanted to just get the card (100-200 matches) or go all the way (400-500 matches). Having the choice of what you wanted to do in the event is a really great way to go, and I'd love to see more of it. The only way that it could have been improved on was to have a separate contest for loot pulls. I like it when you don't need to do loot pulls to max an event. There's a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that you get from grinding something to the end. No issue with having a separate contest with loot pulls and better rewards. That gives something for everyone and will make most players happy.
Apart from the grind, I also managed to get just over the 1600 shards required to recruit. This was also very good. The idea of maxing an event from grinding and getting the card through shard recruitment is in my opinion the holy grail. It's how every event should be. I also think that the scrimmage prizewall offering shards from previous showdown events is an excellent addition to the game. Having the possibility to get the last couple shards for a recently launched card is great for everyone, please keep it up! Finally, the prizewall medallions were also decent, especially if you went all the way. If you wanted the best plates you still needed to spend a little to get the 125k medallions, and I think that's totally fair. Well done to whoever structured the solo event.
Faction event:
This was pretty good too. Most of the top 100 factions will max it, and I think that's about the right level. Not much else to add here
Tours:
These were also very good. Not too long, and not requiring overly rare cards. I really like the addition of the challenge tour matches. 1 node is perfect for these, and it's great to go up against the toughest opponents our there, please keep them!
Thanks for a great event, and really hope that we see more of them in the future.

this event was one of the best in a long time always do it like this
2 -
No solo points from obtaining bulldog shards at all.. now I have to spend because we all know how speedy you are at replying. Another trick to get us to spend.
0 -
Please lower the requirements to get the Bulldog Card, they are too high and extremely difficult to get
0 -
plz reduce the burdenability of required characters in showdown rather focus on required era base superstars and even reduce the no. of milestones which are very difficult to achieve without empting the wallets...🙏🙏🙏🙏
0 -
Scopely did a better job with this showdown. By allowing the players to grind instead of having to spend money in order to get a new character, you allowed players to decide how far they wanted to go. If this continues, you could see an increase in player participation during events.
