My thoughts on the entire contest.
Starting with the good.
I really enjoyed being able to max the contest and see what the game has to offer in rewards when you actually complete a contest.
Getting a new free superstar is good for everyone’s roster and could help the newer players enjoy the game more and stay if you could grind your way to a half decent superstar every couple of months.
The leaderboard prizes look good and again with a grind are achievable.
Now, the bad.
The Blog doesn’t match the contest or has inaccurate information. For example the required superstars, it states any showboat but a new gen showboat is required.
People don’t like being lied to. We were all informed that the affected players would not receive bulldog until after the 24 hour bonus period had ended. They received him at the start of the contest along with 500k bonus points. This gave 20% of the game a head start on the contest leaderboards and makes the whole contest unfair for the people who by no fault of their own were unaffected by the mistake earlier in the week. It was also communicated that bulldog would be in the middle of the free milestones. You could argue that he was this week seeing that all milestones were achievable for free however, most people see the middle as milestone 5 or 6 not 10.
Overall I think it was really good that you gave away what you did to the community but it wasn’t without it issues.

This is one of the best SD events that we have had in ages. For the longest time, people would get upset that they got 1200/1600 of a card on a given weekend, and would say, " I wish we had a weekend where we could grind of a card" We got that this weekend. EVERYONE, regardless of roster had chance to get not only the 3sb card FOR FREE, but if you had the time, you could get the full 4ss card FOR FREE, not to mention all of the prize wall medallions, resources, and new plate.
I have seen people say many places that it isn't fair, or it's on a holiday weekend or other mumbo jumbo. We have SD the first weekend of every month, you can choose to play or not. People should say that they didn't have time to get the card, not that it was a bad event. Did I mention that the event was maxable for free? Unlimited wins were possible.
The other thing that was mentioned was the group that got the card early and got a bonus. I didn't get the bonus. I don't care about the bonus. It had no bearing on MY PERFORMANCE. They maxed sooner, but they had to grind just like everyone else. People will find any excuse to cover for their roster or gaming shortcomings.
This was a fantastic event.

the sd was once again the bottom drawer. one is promised that the event star is not in the last ms and where is it in the last . without the rare superstars no chance to score. and then you should fight 300 sd or more depending on how many stars are missing. just shit. the team bags are nice but i always had the same splinters in them, not enough of course. and the tours only with newgen what a great idea not. I found the earlier sd much better. you could max it now, a thing that is only possible with real money. and it's getting worse week by week. but as long as the whales can determine everything, it won't get any better. I can understand why many f2p players don't want to play the game anymore. it should also be thought about the awarding of points, maybe just more possibilities to do the solo at least without effort if you are missing the bonus stars.

As this event ends, I want to firstly say it is so refreshing to have a weekend event that doesn’t require anything other then time. Forget everything else, all you needed was the time to grind your way through the ENTIRE event. It’s something we all wish for constantly. Sure, you could spend and lessen the amount of time, and to me, that’s perfect! Hear me out …
This game has, in general gone from Pay to Win all the way to Pay to Play. You literally can’t complete events, even the “free” portion, without spending. It’s what I hate most about the game.
This event, that was not the case. It didn’t require a dime. This is a event we should get AT LEAST one weekend a month. I’d even suggest making better packages to buy that would lessen the time required. I’d bet you’d make more money then a normal event where you can spend and get nowhere in the event. This is how events should work all the time tbh, but at least once a month, let people grind all the way through for free. Give us that option please

I want to start off with the "bad" side of things first, and clear the air because this entire week and weekend has been absolutely jam-packed with drama, anger, and disdain towards the game which is honestly absolutely mind-boggling to me over these issues. Are there plenty of issues to get up in arms about, sure. Red rings. Plate currency availability. Affiliation straps. Etc. But getting ANGRY over a BRAND NEW CARD being provided to the ENTIRE GAME for FREE is absolutely insane to me.
Let us address the "bad". The issue here is truly a miscommunication. The person in charge who decided to inform the content creators that the character will be "in the middle of the milestones" needed to do a better job. To be completely transparent here, that was not "the middle" of the milestones. The middle could be construed as 3m out of 6m since that's the halfway point, or milestone 8/15 since that's half the milestones, the "middle" or "midway" point as some might refer to it as. But unfortunately, there was a major miscommunication from those in charge, who informed the content creators to tell the community incorrect information by specifically saying "the middle" of milestones instead of just saying he will be obtainable for anyone who wants to put the effort forth and has the time to do so. I think everyone can agree, communication can be improved here, and it's not something to get angry about at all. Whether it's the content creators or the developers. Frustrated? Sure. Angry? Not worth this amount of effort to plague an event because of the community's anger...
Now let us talk about the good! EVERYBODY had a chance at a FULL Bulldog Card this weekend. 3s and everything. Not even a 1s card. I've seen numerous "free to play" members of this community, ranging from 800k roster talent to 3m+ roster talent, all manage to find a way to obtain the brand new Bulldog Card by investing their time this weekend. The majority of these complaints that I am seeing from people who are saying "this isn't a free event" is nutty to me, because if that's the case, nothing in this game is free. Nothing that you do is free if you are valuing every second of your time as a dollar amount. I'm not that way. I play a game because I enjoy playing the game. Not because I feel it's a job and I have to compare "well is it worth playing this game for 10 hours, or throwing $200 at it because that's what 'my time is worth' to me". I enjoy being able to dedicate my time to a game and seeing my progress from doing just that. It's a huge reason of why I still participate and play the game very competitively for feud leaderboards. I don't liken this game to a job where I get angry about these style of events which get released on weekends like this where it's an absolutely free character, skill plate, and prize wall skill plate compared to the normal weekend of needing to spend hundreds if not close to thousands of dollars for the same outcome. And because I don't find this game equal to that of a job? When I compare this Scrimmage Showdown contest to ANY OTHER Scrimmage Showdown contest over the past year+ dating back to 2021? This is the best event that has ever been released. I managed to have enough time to grind out a new card, a new skill plate, and a CHOOSE skill plate from a prize wall, all during the span of Money In The Bank weekend, and I spent no money in order to do so.
I'm actually dumbfounded I need to explain WHY this weekend was such a massive success..! This is the definition of what games should be all about. EVERYONE gets a shot at the new thing! THIS WEEKEND THERE WAS TWO NEW THINGS, BULLDOG AND HIS SKILL PLATE! And NOBODY needed to SPEND a single PENNY!!! There was no risk. There was only reward. These types of events should be what the game moves towards. Let everyone dedicate their grind for showdown, for feud, for blitz, for boss, for all these game modes. GIVE THE OPTION to the players. If they STILL want to spend $800 for a skill plate? LET THEM! BUT DON'T TAKE AWAY MY OPTION TO GRIND! This is an amazing, even playing-field for EVERYONE who played the game this weekend.
I hope everyone takes a deep breath and truly looks at what this event provided them, compared to every other Scrimmage Showdown event that they played from earlier this year... And then when they realize just how amazing this event was, they come back here onto the forum, and let their thoughts be heard on how they jumped the gun on being angry, and should have truly just played this event before getting angry about being able to grind out a brand new card and skill plate instead of needing to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
This type of backlash, and hatred, anger, and resentment from the community towards these amazing style of events, and the lack of action on all the issues mentioned previously in this post, as well as on this forum, truly only shows me that it's not worth fighting the good fight anymore. People will continue to complain because they could not log in and click "claim" on a brand new bulldog, because they don't want to actively PLAY the GAME, they just want to click "win" instead...

Overall this was a decent event for those able to put in the time for it. Like the majority I didn’t have all the characters that gave extra points but thanks to grinding through matches up until the end I was able to get the free card and some added rewards afterward thanks to the basic points given per fight performed.
Hopefully there will be more contests like this in the future.

This was a great event. Everyone, free to play and pay to play players, could grind this event out to get the free wrestler if they chose to do so. Not everyone did and that's alright. But the point is that they could without spending. This is an event like we used to have when people encouraged each other and tried to help keep members on their team motivated. I think this was great for team and overall game morale. I'd like to see one of these once a month. This event was appreciated

I would like to say tho this event wasn’t easy to max getting the bulldog was rather easy. I did manage to max the event with 55 sec left without having

it took me the whole time to do it but added 2 new ppl(bulldog, ronda) and I got the plate I wanted as well. So tho it took me a while it was almost free I did spent 1 token a day ($10) to max an event I for one would rather have an event take me all day to max then spend then it’s up to me how bad I want it not how much money I want to spend

I was glad to see the event where the milestone rewards were decent and the final one achievable, I mean yeah it was a grind, but totally worth it

I thought the SD scrimmage event this weekend was the best SD event EVER in the game. It’s even better than the zPaige SD event from the zRock Debacle. If I had time this weekend, I could have maxed the solo event, but was perfectly happy with milestone 15 and getting Bulldog at his fuse point, saving recruiting the 3sb for 200 shards.
It was also nice to see the community band together to help others get Bulldog or the skill plates. The ones who are complaining, I feel just want to get something for nothing or little effort just because of the Acro Warrior debacle. If the complainers put half the effort of leaving negative comments into trying to get Bulldog in the SD tournament, they would get him.
Were there miscommunication from Scopely? Probably yes, but I come to expect that each time, so it doesn’t surprise me.
I hope this kind of scrimmage where you can grind the milestone without the paywall comes back from time to time as good faith for all players. I’m not expecting this each month or every week, I just hope it doesn’t go into the black hole like Invasion…

Considering all circumstances I believe you guys did the best you could...I'm personally content with how the event turned out . Was able to grind out a free card and plate along with the medallions to grab an additional top tier plate. Doesn't really get better than that...just wish in the future such goodness could come to the game genuinely planned out opposed to the way it rolled out this time...but overall I'm in good favor of a sensible reasonable grind!!!

2bob29 basically hit every point here on the head. We rarely ever get pure grind events that yields a whole actual card. This was Scopely's solution to quite the kerfuffle (thanks Goldie for that word). Could it have been better? Absolutely. Could it have been easier? Of course. I don't have anything to add to what 2bob29 already said because his response was that...damn...good. Real talk fella.

I’ll take this SD grind with these guaranteed rewards over the other shitty modes with nothing but RNG boxes any day.

I'm going to echo some of the sentiment above. The communication on this event was definitely not good, but realistically that is the only negative I have towards this event. In the future I hope the communication to the players can improve and it would be nice if it came directly from Scopely instead of throwing the content creators under the bus for all of the hate, usually unjustified, from the community.
Now for the positive, we always ask for events that are completely free or grindable to get new things. We get one and it feels like 75% of the community still wants to complain. Not only did we get a free poster but I got two new skill plates for 0 dollars. I did not benefit from the bag mishap and I was missing 5 of the event characters and was still able to max the event with 3 1/2 hours left. All it took was time, that's it. If you wanted the card it was there for you.
I really hope that in the future we can have more of these events and not just when there is a mess up.

This event is exactly how they should always be. If you want the rewards spend you time to grind it out without having to spend. If one chooses to play for hours on end to get all the milestones it is their choice, and if one chooses to spend to get there that is their choice. I wish the circumstances that lead to this did not happen, but the result was the desired result for most that play this game. Playable options to win!!!
Nicely done, hopefully at least once per month we can get an event like this.

Actually made it so if you took the time to grind, you could actually get a card regardless of the rarity. Like the good ol days. It’s about time. I get you guys need to make money, but having at least 1 event a month like this would probably earn a lot more good will and favor from the community and not destroy the bottom line. Thank you a weekend where it was actually play over pay.

The only bad thing about this event were the circumstances that made it possible.
The card was definitely attainable if you had the time and will to grind through the amount of matches it took.
If we can get these a bit more often I think it will help create goodwill with the community.

Fantastic event.
This is the format that most, if not all events should follow. Grinding to the end was long and difficult, but possible. CSS and spending speed up progress and give some extra goodies. This is infinitely more engaging than giving us a couple of hours of content and then paywalling all the good rewards.
Every player had the opportunity to max the entire event just by playing the game.
I urge Scopely to ignore the moaning of the entitled and vocal minority who will seemingly complain about absolutely anything, even the choice to max an entire event 100% for free. Yes, there were some unfortunate circumstances to lead to this event, but the event itself is one of the best we've seen in the game. Giving us the choice to grind towards progress is what we've been begging for, please give us more opportunities like this.
We of course understand that the game can't survive by giving away every reward for free. Hopefully we can see more events with unlimited scoring where players can attempt to grind bonus milestones and take advantage of offers to speed up their progress. This way we can find a balance in the game instead of the huge paywall gap that we often see.
When we see $600-$800 rewards at the max milestone, most players just switch off completely. However, if you give players the option to grind closer to that reward with unlimited scoring and reduce that cost, now spending feels like they've earned themselves a 'deal' from playing the game. 'Grind events' can be a win-win for both players and Scopely.

This event was one of thr best events in the history of this game. By grinding, I was able to get a brand new card and two skill plates. And very good ones at that. Those complaining about the event simply do not want to put the effort in.

Look, everyone knows the communication was less than ideal. However, that's been talked about to death, and I am sure it'll be discussed behind the scenes where needed.
That aside, the format of this weekend's contest was amazing. The players were left to choose how much they wanted to play and get what rewards they wanted. You want the card? Play X matches. Want a new skill plate too? Play some more. Notice I said play and not pay. While I understand as a business this type of event cannot always happen, to see it pop up a couple times a year would be fun. Also, I'm really enjoying the challenge tours. I hope those stick around in weekend events and MLCs going forward.

I appreciate having a guaranteed new superstar. With only the common bonus points characters, it took me ~8 hours to grind through the contest to get the Bulldog. Kinda feels ridiculous for something advertised as guaranteed achievable. It's hard to casually play over 500 games in a single day.

I don’t think that it was a intentionally bad event. It was a grind to get Bulldog, but for the grind, a 3 star should have been in the earlier milestones. It also wasn’t really fair that because of your mistake, people got the bonus right away, then got shards to help level him up. The scoring system needs to be fixed. I lost 57 notoriety and only got 26 back on “revenge”. Now I know I should work on my defense more, or promoters more, but is it too much to get the same amount of points back that I lost? Make it more toe to toe vs deepest pockets wins. All in all, it was a serious grind, and the tours should have been like the mlc tours. Anyone can be used, but you get a bonus for certain stars used.

Need to have more events like this where there's actually a realistic chance of getting the character without having some sort of freakish luck. This is what the game should be about. Being a good "player"

I don’t understand how anyone can be upset with this event. You just needed to put in time to get a guaranteed new card. A weekend chase card at that. If you didn’t want to grind it out don’t complain, just love along. This has been one of the best events in some time and I would like to see this style event once a month!

It's not easy to get very many new superstars without putting up money. Thankfully, Scopely is helping us out again and letting everyone get the chance for new British Bulldog! Very nice looking superstar and great moves! I will be leveling mine. Not often do we see events where we can easily obtain the new superstar. The reason he is so easy, was because a mistake scopely made earlier in the week, but if they could change it to where everyone can get some of these new characters easy, or maybe a tad bit harder to get, this game would improve so much! I have been playing this game for years, it has its ups and downs, but this is definitely an "up" moment!

The event itself was great, the communication was the issue and the people receiving the extra points which messed up the leaderboard. That being said the positive was that if you had the time you could cap it and that was great and should be the way it goes moving forward.
