Playstyle

Forget the board, Montez Ford does not care nor does he want it, he only wants the smoke. Imagine his style as a slingshot, he charges up the momentum and releases it all in one go, taking anyone in the path even before they know it.

Notable Combos

  1. DDT / Springboard Crossbody / From The Heavens

Trainer 1: Darren Young "Prime Time Players"

Trainer 2: Akam" Authors of Pain"

Montez's first and perhaps most powerful combo in terms of efficiency & simplicity. From left to right, each move will fill up the next. Follow this order, DDT -> Springboard Crossbody -> From The Heavens -> DDT

If additional Blue move damage sources (other than Entourage) are available, the match will likely be finished turn 1.

The 3Star move, Enzuigiri, may look out of place at first. It actually can replace DDT should you face an opponent that has high-move damage defense.

2. Standing Moonsault / Standing Dropkick / Rollover Leaping Clothesline

Trainer 1: Seth Rollins "The Architect"

Trainer 2: Akam "Authors of Pain"

A 5star move-set that features 2 Bleed moves. Start with Standing Moonsault to gain Blue MP. Use Standing Dropkick next and pin the opponent in the next turn with Rollover Leaping Clothesline finisher.

It will need 2 turns to be fully executed but a positive outcome is guaranteed and the damage will scale much better than the From The Heavens finisher as new rarities are introduced. Plus you do not need much for the setup, just having the trainers on is more than enough to bring down a titan.

Weak Against

  • Superstars that have low charge Blue MP steal moves.

    Wow

Montez definitely wants the smoke. He’s so good. Bleed damage is crazy.

"Forget the board" Umm, is this even the same game anymore? What even is the point of a character that can literally ignore the most basic, most fundamental essence of the game, "match 3 gems"? You guys have literally lost the plot, and if he dominates every feud and showdown from now on, you'll be losing your playerbase next.

He's awful for showdown if perks are active and they always are. He's not the first character to ignore the board.

Who ignored the board before him? I'm trying to recall, since everyone else before him has at least affected the board in some way or other, even if their moves chain into each other (eg, Tech Black still needed to place his area of gems, thereby triggering cascades, traps, etc.) Montez in this setup doesn't even touch a single gem unless you force him into a pin or sub. So right there, he's not even playing the most fundamental step of the game.

even if they do something on the board it's basically the same you don't pay attention to anything you just do moves. hbk never even looks at the board he pins you every turn until you die. lana has one build that is purely just moves and another that has a little interaction. orton usually doesn't do a gem match. kofi rarely does a gem match. lee never does a gem match unless you don't have a dx plate. gooker never does a gem match and has minimal board interaction. jbl almost never makes a gem match. rude almost never makes a gem match on one build. ph hogan rarely makes a gem match. ztaker only makes it if he doesn't start charged unless you don't have the big e plate. HOF hall needs no board interaction you just die t1.

OK, I stand corrected on the lack of precedent, but it does beg the question of "was it a good idea to set this kind of example?" This game was supposed to be about matching gems, then making moves. These character designs are essentially no different from just putting up a demo AI that does their signature moves. It just ain't right. And Lana and Kofi, bad as they are, still have to touch gems sometimes, so they can still get hit by traps on their turn. HBK with the low cost immobilisation, and NWO Big Show with his constant freezing of the bottom rows are far more egregious. They scream poor design, and zero playtesting balance. I get it, you need to try something new to excite players and make them want to buy in. But these. These scream of a 12 year old who just realised he can edit his game files and make his characters invincible/unstoppable/etc. Sanctioned cheating, basically.
