Showdown Overload

There are SDs scheduled every week this MLC. This seems to be a bit excessive and time consuming for all the players. They will get really sick of SD by the end of a 2 month MLC with SDs weekly and some on weekends. Burnout will be real with that kind of schedule. Showdown takes a lot of grind time to maintain.

What's the community opinion on weekly Showdowns for the next 8 weeks?

I like SD here and there but every week and then possibly on the weekends is excessive. Taking into account it is a restrictive grind mode, it can get old fast. Loosening restrictions and lowering milestones can help alleviate this.

Its too much and it seems like busywork. Like instead of coming up with tours, or something else they just throw a showdown at you constantly. I feel as if a new game mode is desperately needed. Why not like a single player faction style boss? More tag team things? Tours that let people pick the difficulties and the rewards are based on the difficulty beaten ( a la Marvel Puzzle Quest)? Just something to freshen the game up.

NOT TO MENTION, you are almost required to have a coin promoter to get close to maxing out the contest if you dont have the very rare, extremely hard to get CSS.

  • I personally enjoy showdowns. I like their restrictive nature. Though when you count 1 every two weeks which is a weeklong affair, then every other week will more than likely be a midweek showdown, and then on a few of the weeks there will ALSO be a weekend showdown... It feels like it's going to be too much, more so than usual seeing at it's the holidays and most people will have less time than usual.

Showdowns normally don't bother me, but this mlc is overkill. Too much showdown.

Way too many Showdowns planned for this MLC. Along with far too much grinding for very little rewards. The prizewalls have had ok things on them, but you can't get enough of the currency to get anything good. If this continues as it is we will have a great loss of interest in the game.

Thank you for the feedback. Hopefully the perk changes will make it more enjoyable for people.

I used to like showdown very much, to me the more was the better, now I still like them, but a little less, I think they should limit defensive teams to 5sg, or at max one 5sg and one 6sb, playing against two 6ss that most of the times are also strapped with plates will make showdown became frustrating, also because they made the contest missions harder (break this kind of gems, make damages with this or that class/era etcetc), so or they limit the defensive team or they give us easier missions (like it was time ago).

Plus if they bring back the grind-ability it had before the energy cap I’d like it way more, but I understand their point of view on this, with energy cap they can sell energy and gain money, so ok, let's keep this if Scopely need it, but at least give us back 16/16 as max cap.

I am just now learning there is a Showdown today. I like Showdowns just fine because they do require planning and thought, but now we have Showdowns in place of Tours every other week, and Showdowns during non-Showdown weeks (like this week), and Showdowns at least one weekend a month as well, not to mention the regular league Showdown (which at this point is not appetizing at all).

Does this have anything to do with Scopely successfully monetizing Energy?

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say:

    1. I do play this game competitively.
    2. Playing competitively becomes very difficult during regular business hours as more midweek Showdowns hit where I need to spend 10 minutes setting up my trainers, coaches, and promoters for highly restrictive requirements and then about 8-10 taps (literally) to get between the Showdown match screen and the Tasks screen to see how many Multiply Gems I still need to break to finish that task or how many more wins I need to get with a Blood Brother (who?)
    3. I can't afford to wait to start Showdown until after work because then the opportunity cost of starting 4-5 hours later is 8-10 energies that...lo and behold, I can only make up if I buy them...and then if I'm missing too many CSS I'd need to buy even more Energy as well to max the event.

I may just be shouting into a black hole by even writing anything here but if anyone of relevance is reading this: the significant increase in requiring time-sensitive Showdown activity to maintain competitiveness - specifically midweek - will probably be the reason I leave the game after seven years, and I really had not contemplated quitting at all until this week.

  • I like the SD's. I don't mind them at all. Except for all of the damn restrictions.

    I concur with @Davey D

Showdown is and will continue to be my favorite mode, I enjoy it more than any other aspect and I still say it should be returned to its original format with no energy lnecessary.

I don't mind playing SD once a week over a two day period. What I think would be best would be all events on a rotating schedule that gets set and stuck to. First weekend SD, Second weekend Feud, Third weekend Blitz, Fourth weekend Boss Battle.

sprinkle in a 24 hour SD in the middle of week 4, a feud week 3 Blitz Boss Battle etc.etc.. you see what I mean. Also having to beat a Tour boss X amount of times for points towards the month long more than just the first week should be taken into consideration or farming keys from boxes throughout the whole month could easily be added for grinders to enjoy.

Hope some of this makes sense to the people in charge. Have a great day everyone!

personally the new perks made it much more enjoyable for me. I didn't compete too hard because there wasn't anything I needed but going forward having 2 people who can start turn 1 will make it better for me

Not just the SD, this whole month feels like overkill. This is normally a time of year when people have a lot going on and want to spend time with family (especially this week). Everyday, there is a limited time tour, then blitzes and showdowns on top of that. Throw in some feuds and BB and it just feels like way too much.

I don't mind the showdowns but the restrictions kind of make it so we have to work on who developers make us work on as far as enhance/evolves instead of who we choose or who we've already worked on

Also the milestones seem to be getting more out of reach

The showdown store needs an update as well. Maybe adding different character posters or even class specific shard cases like the star fills a lot of "buy" daily

This mode just seems like a chore among the seemingly endless things we need to do daily to keep up

    Thanks

  • I was going to make a new discussion on this subject but thankfully I searched before making it.

Here is my take on this.

I love showdown. But I would love all this showdown more, IF THE SHOWDOWN SHOP ACTUALLY HAD SOMETHING WORTH BUYING. I currently have EVERYTHING in the showdown shop. I only go to get the TP, coin, fragments, and HOF tokens that are in it. I have every superstar you can obtain from SD shop. Many people have MILLIONS in showdown shop coin...GIVE US A REASON TO SPEND THEM. If you want to bombard us with Showdown events, then incentivize our millions of stored SD coins.

This has been mentioned in my faction, and I have seen it on the Champs Reddit, and I'm pretty sure I have seen it mentioned on some of Content Creator's Steams on Twitch.

I have learned to work around the perks system and can do my part but again...getting all these showdown coins and well...having nothing of value to spend them on...then what was the point of grinding said event. Because honestly...the showdown event grind...yeah you do what you can to max the event pertaining to it, but what about all the showdown coins you got in that grind? What do you do with them?

Someone in my faction suggested...add class specific token boxes. Like a 6 star silver token box. Now...obviously this cannot be something easily purchased. Make it 100 thousand showdown coins or something, or even as much as a full shard recruit superstar so...100k-200k showdown coins? But you can make it a guaranteed item that refreshes each day. You give the community an incentive to get 6 star silver tokens and they will pounce.

In summary, yeah we're overloaded but if there was something extra to use our stacked up Showdown Coins for then I could see value in constant Showdown Events.

  • this is ass.. whoevers idea it as to implement sd every week and some weekends. needs firing.. get rid of perks all together if you wanna do sd all the damn time. perks make it even worse.

so close to just deleting the game and going back to clash of clans. at least there they dont tey and make bs fun...

Way to listen to the feedback. We say "SD is overkill," you say "here are more perks."

I remember when showdown was once every 2 weeks and it was enjoyable. Now it’s almost every day (or feels that way!) And it’s ruined it.

A great 4 week contest would consist of; 2 regular feuds, 2 showdowns, 2 boss battles and 2 midweek tour events. Keep the daily showdown but nothing else.
