I think it would be a great feature to add some gears to the newer characters that use the hangers or go back and revamp some older ones with new gear to help them keep up some

Gear wall with hangers as currency. Get rid of anything priced in gold hangers.

Gears have been added periodically that use hangers. It's not common but it has happened.

No they haven't. They were added once when gear first became a thing and never again since. If you have examples I would love to be proven wrong so I can go spend some hangers.

I don't recall offhand. but they showed up along with some additional trainer abilities awhile in the past. None were useful though.
