FACTION BOSS Q&A
Compiled by @Golden Girl , @Guersan , & @Mherex .
*Please note: this game mode is still currently in beta and some questions we can't answer until the game mode goes live.
Week One: Gaining Access
How do you unlock the Faction Boss?
Complete the quests in your Faction HQ (level up superstars, level up moves, heal faction mates, win offensive Showdown matches, spend faction coins, complete expeditions, and claim solo quest stars.) The amount of quests you need to complete the last Faction Group Quest milestone will depend on your faction's tier.
What happens if my faction doesn't complete the week-long quests?
You can still play the Faction Boss Battle, but instead of playing with your faction, you'll play in a global lobby with other random players for lower rewards.
Week Two: Preparation
What is a Scouting Mission?
Scouting Missions give boosts to the entire faction that are applicable during the Boss Battle.
The strength of your boost depends on the cumulative talent acheived by your faction.
How many Scouting Missions are there?
here are 5 missions. Each last for 24 hours and reset with your Solo Faction Quests.
What happens if I miss a day?
You will miss the boost for that day. Individual participation is required.
Faction Boss Battle: Joining a Battle & Setting a Lineup
How do you join a battle?
You may either create your own lobby of four, or join a pre-existing one in your faction. The lobby owner may kick players from their lobby.
How do I set my lineup?
You have to bring four superstars, one in each style (aggressive, chaotic, defensive, and focused.) Each boss will have a different strength/weakness, so choose your superstars accordingly.
Can I change my lineup after the prep timer expires?
You can, yes.
Do we bring all four superstars into the battle? Are we locked in the battle once it starts?
You must choose one for the duration of that battle and cannot make substitutions during. You can see your lobby's superstars and plan accordingly with them.
Does our lobby have to have one superstar of each style?
No. You can bring two aggressive, one chaotic, one defensive, and zero focused if you wish, but be mindful of the boss breaker abilities you'll be losing out on.
Would a group of 4 of the same character be more ideal than using four different ones?
Possibly. It would depend on the superstar (ie. acro Shelton for blue gems, Afa for black gems, etc.)
Is it intergender?
No, men only for now.
If you get stuck on a level, does it reset to zero or lower so you can practice?
Not entirely sure, lobby owner can choose level though.
The Boss
How strong is the boss?
Bosses range from level 1-10, and have different bonuses each level (ie. 50% more blue gem damage, 50% less black gem damage, etc.)
How much health does the boss have?
Health is dependent on boss level.
Do you have to complete a level one boss to unlock a level two, three, etc?
Unsure.
Does talent level affect the boss strength?
No, boss strength is determined by its level.
Does the boss swipe gems on the board?
No, the boss does not interact with the gem board.
What is the shield?
The boss activates a shield on his turn that can only be broken by breaking specific colour gems or by using a boss breaker ability. The boss will take NO damage until the shield is broken.
Does the boss have a shield at all levels?
Yes.
Can you still do bleed damage when the shield isn't broken?
Yes. Bleed damage will be applied in full effect on the bosses next turn.
What's the cooldown on the shield?
Not listed, possibly every third turn (needs clarity).
How does the boss do damage?
The boss does 500k damage per turn and it stacks. Turn one will be 500k, turn 2 is 1m, turn 3 is 1.5m, etc.
Is the 500k damage from the boss spread out over all four members?
No, the boss does 500k to each player.
Will protect gems and gem defense straps/medals protect you from boss attacks?
No, since the damage is a set value and the boss does not interact with the gem board.
Can we use the boss phase to set up the gem board for our next turn?
No, you can't interact with the gem board when it's the bosses turn.
Can the boss deplete your health?
Yes. When your health is gone, you're finished.
Boss Battle: Gameplay & Gem Types
Who starts?
You and your lobby get the first turn.
Do all four team members play simultaneously? All of our gems broken count together?
Yes and yes. All four team members interact with their own gem board.
How many turns do we get?
Turns are time-based. You get one minute to deal as much gem/move damage as possible before the boss gets a turn.
Are move animations included in your one minute?
Yes, you'll need to take these into consideration. The move animation has to have ended before the timer ends, or you won't get credit for the move.
Since turns are time-based, what happens if we cause a pin?
Good news! There is NO pin bar for this game mode, and the boss does NOT have MP.
No pin bar? Will reversals still do damage?
They will not, since you cannot be pinned.
If the boss doesn't have MP, will submission moves still work?
Submission move damage will work and is applied instantly in full.
Do multiply gems count as more than one gem?
No. A x2 or x5 multiply gem will only count as one gem.
Can we stun the boss?
You cannot, but you will still do the damage from stun moves.
How do turn-based move buffs work if there are no turns?
Turn-based will turn into action-based (see countdown/juggernaut gems)
Do Botch and freeze gems have any uses in this mode ?
All color and modified gems can be set by our team in the design to do extra/reduced dmg against the boss compared to other gems. this is what is shown as "effective" and "weak" in the boss info. effective means it is boosted against the boss, weak means it is reduced strength against the boss. otherwise, botch and silence will only help you if your own SS relies on them for dmg
Are there perks?
No, and not sure if they'll be added.
Will King Macho have a cap on his power gems?
No
How are wildcards used?
No, Wildcards are the same
Can we use props?
Yes
Are there applicable promoters?
Not at the moment, no.
Will trap gems work?
They'll work for you, but the boss doesn't swipe gems to trigger them.
Do colour turn gems count as the specific colour broken?
Yes, when they turn to that colour.
Does class advantage apply?
The Boss is technically no Superstar, so class advantage shouldn't apply.
Do we need to use health packs afterwards?
No. You need to be at full life to enter the match, but you do not lose health afterwards.
How do countdown/juggernaut gems work if there are no turns?
Countdown and juggernaut gems will count down per player action. Example: a 3-turn countdown gem will activate after a gem swipe, move, and boss breaker ability.
Will skill plates work?
Yes. Unknown if gem generation plates will count towards the specific gem needing to be broken.
Do initial board coaches work?
Assumed yes, but not confirmed.
How do I charge my moves?
It is IMPORTANT TO NOTE that if your character has a 1mp move, you need to make a match to charge it. You will NOT get +1 MP per turn as there are no turns! You charge your moves by swiping, move affects, and skill plate if applicable.
What if I don't have a good character that breaks a certain colour of gem?
Bring a character with big damage instead.
Would a blast gem character be good when blowing up the board?
Yes. Anybody that can recycle and do big damage will be useful.
