i wish there was a way for players to change there in game name at least once

It is possible but normally the existing name has to be offensive in nature. You can contact support and see if they will change it for you.

@youngE don’t hold your breath for this to be granted though considering players have been known to sell their accounts (against TOS) or have a reputation of poaching or faction hop. If players were to change their name, it would also prevent others from being able to identify those with a negative reputation.
