That's probably because you have played on android and iPhone. I don't know what the reasoning is behind it but I always have an extra invisible item in my inventory for some reason.

I dont like how it says you could have gotten one. I was excited when I got the message only to see my inventory was still empty. Maybe next time!

The mystery chest you earn in the last milestone (16/16) of the current "United in combat faction competition" so if your faction didn't reach the last milestone yet, that's why you dont have the chest yet.
