Tokens, Keys and holiday rewards

Does anyone else see ads for free character's and can never locate said character? Do they ever give out holiday rewards mostly tokens for a certain contest bc I've played 4 yrs I don't really think it should be necessary to purchase all tokens and character's especially if you put the game time in like me... I was also wondering if anyone knew a way of getting tokens w/o purchase?
