Community morale & state of the game in 2023

This discussion won’t apply to everyone as some players may feel the game is just fine in its current state. But I feel this needs it’s own thread as opposed to just venting week after week in the townhall discord server.

A couple of days ago I asked a number of faction leaders what the overall morale was like in their factions. In a nutshell they all said the same thing, all time low, deflated and negative. Basically nothing positive to say at all.

after playing this game for 6 years and being the leader of a successful top 10 faction for the last 4 years, I’ve seen pretty much everything there is to see. The game has come a very long way over the years with a lot of improvements like auto claiming daily rewards. 2x speed up for game modes. Plenty of other things too.

I however find the game is moving more into a paid product. There’s little to no reward for playing anymore. You need premium contest superstars to compete in the next contest to succeed. It’s a viscous cycle of if you don’t get the showdown character from week 1, you then miss out on a css for the flash feud weekend. Miss out on a boss character and you lose css for the following boss event.

I totally understand this is a business and you have to make money and that’s fine. This game has always made money and it always will. You however have the biggest portion of your playerbase who don’t spend or spend very little. Without these players your biggest spenders will have no competition left other than the personal need to have every new character.

my spending has personally taken a big cut since I no longer get anything of value for spending up to £100. In order to get anything decent I need to commit £200-500 at a minimum. This isn’t sustainable long term for anyone outside of maybe 300 players.

I’ve had numerous players in my faction say they’re giving it another month or so and if it’s still the same they’re going to be quitting and using their time and money on another game.

im not asking for freebies. I prefer to personally work for my rewards. I’ll happily play the game for 20 hours over a weekend to get myself something of value. Currently there’s nothing to put 20 hours into anymore. Every event hits a wall of CSS requirements, energy restrictions and now non grindable feud events. Surely you want as many players as possible playing your game for as many hours as possible. More engagement equals more potential customers. Players who don’t log on won’t be buying anything.

not every weekend event is meant to be maxed and that’s fine. But currently it’s no events can be maxed unless you’re prepared to drop a few hundred.

this month has probably been the worst I’ve experienced in the last 6 years. I’ve had the least desire to play and I’m normally a huge advocate of playing the game.

its a constant cycle of new weekend character. Spend £300 to max the event and no guarantee of even getting the new character.

please feel free to add to this. I can’t speak for every player/faction. I dread to think how bad the players in the lower ranked factions have it.

game play has been that bad I had more fun visiting my Nan. She’s in a cancer ward.

I used to spend a bit that atleast guaranteed me a few good pulls but now it's like you spend as much as you can and still no card pulls. The loot coin which we get as feud rewards have the worst pull rate, like, seriously, 5 shards. Now there isn't any fun playing at all. I agree with Luke here the way the game us going and just for spenders, there won't be any fun playing this game anymore. Talking about money, ₹6000 for Indians is a huge amount which doesnt guarantee any good amout of shards or card pulls. Either put good pull rates so that at least we too have chance of getting cards if not maxing events or lower the amount. Talk about maxing, how are we supposed to max events if they aren't grindable at all?

I don't know whether I added value by my comment but sooner or later the game is going to loose plenty of good players.

To be honest I have to agree with Luke, this month has to be one of the worst month in the history of the game.

I have not seen an event that is actually grind able in a long time, I mean I don’t want anything for free but atleast do something that challenges us, not challenge us in paying for the events!

i mean just look at the terry funk event, Scopley said he would easily obtainable from the free milestone and what happened at the end a lot of people actually missed out on him!

These days it’s just get on the game do daily and shut the game off, cause the events are paywalled and you can’t do anything, I mean I don’t mind some event being paywalled but not all of them…

so yeah people will be losing interest sooner rather then later…

    dueces uses! ✌🏼

I see absolutely no value anymore in even spending a few bucks and hoping for a miracle with any of the pulls.

I do see myself losing interest in even putting effort to complete certain events. Take for example,

*mid week showdown, missing a couple of whale CSS stars, opens calculator, do some calculations, grind 200 matches (doable), wait, timing for replenishment of energy will never hit 200, ok, close game and do other things*

this is probably the approach I’m taking for every event in the last 3 months or so.

and very very close to just dropping my account to focus on more important aspects in life

this latest even has now become bags that don’t even have a set amount of shards anymore, purely luck of the draw, down right nonsense

  • first MLC not maxed in a long time, never bought the BSP or the 3* fuse up at the beginning of the event. didnt get Funk as missing a load of the bonus cards required. as said above unless your willing to spend money your fighting a losing battle. getting Bored of the game now to be honest. its the banter I like the most in the faction chats.

I’m one of those “giving it one more month” people. Honestly the only reason I’m still playing at all has nothing to do with the game itself. I just like chatting with the people in my faction.

not asking for easy. Just asking for the ability to play. Super rare character requirements for showdown css, super rare feud requirements, needing 1 of only a few characters to effectively do boss battles are all draining on my morale and will lead to me leaving sooner than later.

  • I can only echo what's been said above. I spend a set amount every weekend in the hopes of snagging the debut character and have done for years. There are only 2 occasions in past 4 years where I have gotten lucky. 1 was the zhbk weekend when we got the free pulls and the other was this weekend. Not only do I never get the debut character I don't even get any shards for cards that I am close to recruiting. The odds are just terrible and if you do drop 100 bucks and get absolutely nothing it just makes you question why bother wasted my hard earned money. Even the guaranteed superstars for doing a 7 pull or 40 pull are ridiculous outdated cards that we already have a gazillion shards of. Never have I ever been closer to quitting for good

I fully agree with all of the comments above. I too have been playing for 6 years or so like many others. I have almost a 6m roster, so I have spent my fair share. I have drastically reduced it though due to the state of the game.

As I have stated on other posts, I have never seen a company so out of touch with their player base like you all. You put things in the game that we certainly did not ask for nor want, constant issues with freezing in some modes, and a collection of other things.

The biggest issue this month by far is the blatant lies told to the community by the "Community Manager". I am now speaking directly to you Firpo. You mean to tell me that in this whole company, you are the only one that can modify a blog? If that is indeed the case, then every time that thing is wrong, it is 100% your fault. Correct? If I blatantly lied to my customers and always put things out w/o fully testing them, I would lose my job. I call it how I see it...you are a complete waste of space. I don't know what you are actually paid to do but it is way too much.

One of my biggest complaints is that 50 million coins is not worth $600 cash. This isn’t a bunch of billionaires sitting around playing the game. We don’t make the kind of money that you think we do and just because a select few do spend that money, that doesn’t mean we should have to suffer the consequences. We should all be able to EARN stuff in the game. Why play this game if you have to pay for nearly EVERYTHING?

  • Game is going from bad to worse.

    No value in offers

    Boss battle constant issues

    Showdown now sucks

Feuds not even worth the hassle anymore due to no shards for new character

    Victory tours lag like hell

Keep adding new crap no one asked for instead of fixing major problems already in game.

YOUR GREED HAS SUCKED ALL FUN OUT OF GAME AS IT IS NOW BASICALLY PAY TO COMPETE

  • I’m in 100% agreeance with Luke, I’ve been playing now for close to 7 years. Granted I do spend, but I’m afraid my spending days are few and far between. There’s a lot going on within the game these days that sucks.

We can grind out a feud to get max milestones, for what? The rewards completely suck. I don’t expect to get the character but damn I’d hope to get 1 measley shard. This rock event has to be the icing on the cake. Was it a mem rock event or nation of domination rock event? I received more shards for mem than nation.

Then comes the point of required characters, ok some of us have them and some don’t. I get it, it promotes spending so the company can make some money. It’s business as usual. But damn some are extremely rare and only a handful have them. Make it somewhat fair for all, not just the ones who spend $500-$1000 every week.

In closing im I will say this. Champions is not fun to me like it used to be. There’s times where I don’t want to login and play. Instead of letting my faction mates down I grind right with them. Hopefully you guys can get the game back where it used to be

When the game isn't fun anymore, the only question left to ask is.."why bother?"That is sadly the point I am at after this entire disaster of an MLC

  • I agree with everyone above as well. As a loyal player over the last 6 years I've at about the end my days playing. I used to love the grind of this game, squeezing in every minute I could to advance my roster and be competitive, nowadays grinding gets you nowhere unless you spend hundreds of dollars along with it. Progression in events is impossible unless you spend hundreds of dollars trying to pullneach and every new character and have a horseshoe up your ass as well, due to every new rare character becomes a css and without them you get nowhere in events. I personally have spent hundreds of dollars in this new event for the technician rock and walked away with 0 shards. I've already reduced my playtime by about half and if I didnt care about my faction mates it would be alot less. You guys have made some great changes with the new updates and giving out free cards is great, although free really meant spending hours upon hours playing the tours and all the other coinciding events along with it which is fine but you also made the rock unachievable due to the fact funk was "free" which is unethical. Again hundreds of dollars spent 0 shards of rock

I wrote something similar in a survey I recently provided. You are killing any sort of F2P element and the players who make this game a community. I personally do (or at least did) spend. But this rock event was it for me. Not a dime on it aside from the 5 bucks to get my feud steps. You created shards years ago to allow cards to be acquired over time. Then you break out an all about the chance card to say screw you to everyone. You used to grind or pay. Now it is grind and pay for a chance. Like your discount prizewall is terribly overpriced (I am around top 50 in solo MLE and can't get anything good), you make it almost impossible unless you get "lucky" to get the top reward and 4 tokens because even with the $100 you can't get him to 5sb week 1, and in general your distribution and point system is just stupid (make things round numbers please for quick and easy math). You are trying to suck every penny from your players, which is business, but you need to keep your F2P players engaged and active or there is no game.

  • I agree with the comments above. To me it seems like there has been a massive shift from what it was to hiding everything behind a paywall. The greed is disgusting, I'm not saying give us everything for free but a lot of your player base is free to play. They do what they can with what they have yet the rewards are trash.

    Something needs to change.

Honestly, as a coleader of a top 15 faction, which is the only faction I have ever been a part of, this is the worst it has been with regards to morale and general feelings about the game. There are always issues that people moan and complain about, that's part of faction life, but now it's so bad that people don't even get upset. The discussion is more about how much longer they will continue to play or when they will stop playing. It is a real shame that the game has taken such a dramatic change towards the money grab, rather than the players because ultimately the motivation across the community is low, which means eventually the community will begin to shrink, and the game will disappear other than those still willing to spend and play. There is a balance between making good money nd keeping players engaged, but that has definitely been lost in the last 2 months with events becoming impossible to max, and matches that exclude most players. I think that if the aim is to keep the longevity of the game, then this is the completely wrong direction to achieve that. However, if the aim is to make as much money as possible before killing the game off, then this is the way scopely should continue to "improve" the game. I for one and crossing my fingers, that things change back to being more about the players than how to extort the most money from the big spebding players (off which those are disappearing too!)

  • This content has been removed.
  • I totally agree with Luke, now players have yo decide that they want to spend money for useless shards in the loot , bcoz no grindable events in this game. Game is totally based on spending..

  • I totally agree with what everyone else has said. I as well have been playing this game since the beginning. And I have never seen a game go from amazingly fun to utter pay to play before in my life.

I recently was hospitalized and was recovering . And got message sent out from scoopely that funk would be easily attainable by merely participating in the showdown event. To my surprise scoopely definition of easily obtainable and mine were totally different was littered with Uber rare ccs. The average player does not have. Plus energy was reduced. . Just recovering from a heart attack if gave up before I got to frustrated by it all. Not every one has the finances to spend thousands of dollars each and every week. Those that do more power to you. Your either very very wealthy or into a lot of debt.. $100 used to give you a lot to offer now ya get crappy outdated characters and if your lucky your gaurentee pull is 10-20 shards of new character. I’m not expecting you to just give away stuff butt make this better for f2p and minor spenders or soon you will just have the top couple hundred whales just playing until they get bored themselves.

I've been posting comments like this warning Scopely that eventually things would come to a head. I agree with every single comment posted above. Morale is at an all time low with the vast majority of the community base. We keep getting told that feedback is critical and te more people that jump on a topic the quicker that gets addressed, time to put your money where your mouth is Dev's. All these comments here are telling you what to do and how to improve. Nobody is asking for anything outrageous or unjustified, like me they simply want to enjoy the game. I've been playing almost 6 years myself like many others and spend occasionally, I've seen many free to play players try and start their journey with this game only to get blocked by various reasons whether its specific cards or payroll and then they walk away. The players that invest a lot in this game, will continue to invest, just because you make adjustments to cater for everyone doesn't mean you would lose anything, quite the opposite in fact.

    Listen to the community!

I agree luke well said. This is the first mlc I havnt maxed in awhile. The 3rd week you put no points then I look today your selling those missing points for 100 bucks.

  • At this point, just let the game die. The game isn't really fun any longer and while having to grind to succeed was a drag, it was at least an obtainable ends to a mean. Now, when there are events that announce they aren't even grindable... why bother?

I'd love to see the metrics of quantity of unique spenders per month and average $ spent per person. I'd have to imagine the quantity of people spending is diminishing rapidly thus causing the need to make the game more "pay to play" so the habitual whale spenders keep that $/person average up.

However, that technique will continue to cannibalize the game as it will drive the less dedicated spenders to drop off continuously until all that is left are the big spenders. And when what is spent by the whales is less than what it costs to run the game... adios game.

This whole game is the EXACT definition of bait and switch. Loot pulls aren’t even what’s advertised. I spend way more than I should but it’s an addiction hoping to get at least what’s advertised on the loot screen. These 2 photos show how crooked this game has become. You have to spend the equivalent to 6 months of house payments to get ahead anymore. I barely squeaked by maxing this month. You’re requiring characters that have no relevancy with what you’re putting out. Between that, and the glitches almost every time you release a new character that’s op, this game has taken a turn for the worse rewards aren’t worth the grind either I remember when you could grind out an event to get someone new this past weekend showed just how greedy it’s become

    IMG_1405.jpeg IMG_1406.jpeg

  • You are ignoring a large portion of your players with the way the game is currently set up.

Top 10 faction rewards are the only ones worth worrying about and those are purchased, not played for. Even then, if people were paying attention, I'm not sure they are worth it.

Almost every event is paywalled. The bonus characters are wrestlers you have to try to get in loot pulls, and even then you have to spend $300 - $500 for a guarantee. I'm not sure it's realistic to expect everyone playing the game to have that much extra money monthly to spend. It's a mobile game. If you don't spend, you have to get lucky with random shard bags. I've hardly ever gotten more than half of the shards needed to get an event character, other people seem to get them from bags on every single event. I'm not sure how random that's supposed to be.

Every event is starting to take 8 - 10 hours a day. People have lives outside the GAME. Please remember this should be a game not a lifestyle. People need to live their lives.

People in our top 50 team are talking about quitting because it's so frustrating and we've lost people in our lower, more fun team because it's too time consuming and no one wants to wait 2 years to be able to compete.

Something needs to change, players are frustrated and people don't feel the game is fair - except of course to those who can spend thousands of dollars monthly. But I assure you, the majority of the players don't have money like that to spend on this game.

Please bring some balance back to the game.

The game is great and fun but there's bad habit to always move players back to square one every event. If i want to get a new poster, i need to be lucky or spend a high amount of money. If i want a new skill plate, i need a new poster and also spend more. If there's a mid week event, i can't max without spending a decent amount. And this is the main thing, the amount required is always unreal and i can speak for myself when i spend $100 and i'm in the middle of nowhere, i get some rewards that are really not worth that much money and i'm also way too far from the good stuff. And once you understand all of that, it creates a community that is always unhappy.

I've been around for 6+ years and all that time and resources spent means nothing when a new event drops. Do i have some advantage? Yes. But do i feel i have an advantage? Not at all. The feeling i have is that no matter how good my roster is and how many events i max, i'll always be back to the start when a new event begins. Being a veteran player, having a high vip level is worthless because lately i'm always gonna have to spend a decent amount if i want to keep up with the current meta. There's no real value lately when it should be. Not saying you need to give a weekend poster for free every week, but you should feel you have an advantage if you have been around long enough, if you have a VIP pass, if you have a high VIP level...

I have been playing for over 3 years and noticed myself as the game continues to “evolve” sometimes it’s not for the better. I was in a top faction Wolfpac Elite (Wolfpac in da house!)for the majority of that time and because of the requirements implemented by the game it was no longer fun being in a top faction if you didn’t spend or commit your life to the game. Despite having built up a good roster through time and effort rather than spending the evolution of this game has made it almost impossible to try and enjoy the “chase”. As noticed clearly this month more than ever if you don’t have the paywall characters you get left behind by the heavy spenders and those with “all the luck” (I’ve managed to get 2 “premium” weekend characters in 3 years, that’s 1 every 75 or so weeks!). To say the game is two tiered is wrong, it’s actually 3. Heavy spenders, grinders and casuals. I’ve noticed recently the casuals are giving up. The grinders are now at the start of the same process. We play this game to enjoy it, please remember without enjoyment or players there is no game.

    Good summary @KuzClaw

Casuals have been forced out already (check the participation in the community event if in doubt)

Grinders are alienated now because of the “not grindable” changes and insane CSS demands

I do wonder how long the heavy spenders will stick around when they’ve got no players to beat up on

I agree with all of the above ..I quit for a few years and came back..After coming back I regret quitting but now I regret coming back to the game .I've worked my tail off to catch up and try and participate being behind and everytime I do get somewhere you keep pushing me back down ...I spend some unfortunately I'm not spending what you require to get anywhere...to be totally honest my wallet is closed now and it will remain closed because it doesn't get me anything anyway..last months mlc has just proven that....it's utter BS to require the loot kings and queens of the month as CSS..you've made it so you shut 3/4 of the community out ...your killing the game to be honest...it's just not fun watching everyone who spends get everything ...I know it's a business I also don't mind throwing a few dollars to help but you just make it unreachable and it's ridiculous...you've made some great changes but now it seems your just out to rip the community off...I also dont expect everything for free but I also don't expect to spend my entire month giving all I have only to come up short every single time..nor do I expect to spend 100 dollars and get shards ..bait and switch for sure...Another mlc is starting guess what we will not get anything for it .. just come close enough we can buy some packs to get it...explain to me how that is fun ...it's not in case no one told you that...I cannot recommend this game to anyone ..not a single person everyone sees me playing it and I tell them stay away...your greed will be your downfall.ibe never seen greed in this level I gotta be honest.....mark my words .that kind if greed will destroy the game it already is ..there nothing to play for...change it to a show what you bought collector game and save yourself some money ...it's not a game it's just gambling...there a way you can get make it achievable and you might even profit more from it ...
